    A sequence \((A_\sigma: \sigma \in \mathbb{N}^{<\infty})\) of subset of \(A\) is a {\em web} in \(A\) if \(A_{\emptyset}=A\) and for each \(\sigma \in \mathbb{N}^{<\infty}\) the sequence \((A_{\sigma \frown n}: n \in \mathbb{N})\) is an increasing covering of \(A_{\sigma}\). The main result of this paper states that for each {\em web} \((\Sigma_\sigma:\sigma \in \mathbb{N}^{<\infty})\) in a \(\sigma\)-algebra \(\Sigma\) there exists a chain \((\sigma_n:n \in \mathbb{N})\) in \(\mathbb{N}^{<\infty}\) such that each \(\Sigma_{\sigma_n}\), \(n \in \mathbb{N}\), is both Nikodým and Grothendieck set for \(ba(\Sigma)\). This is related with a previous result of Valdivia.
