This interesting paper deals with the dynamics of a model of two equally dominated species with survival probabilities \(x, y\). The model is described by a one-dimensional piecewise-continuous two-parameter function of the form \(f(x)=x(1+a-ax),\) if \(0\leq x\leq 1/2\) and \(=x(1-b+bx),\) if \(1/2 < x\leq 1.\) Here \(a, b\) are real numbers in the interval \([0,1]\). The authors investigate the behaviour of the sequence of iterations of \(f\) for various values of the parameters \(a, b\) to obtain the fixed and periodic points, as well as chaotic attractors and it is shown that the orbits are unstable. In the final section a discussion is presented for the biological interpretation of the results.
