The authors consider algebras over a field \(F\) that contains a primitive \(m\)th root of 1, for some fixed \(m\). Let \(H_m\) be a Taft algebra of the given order \(m\). The authors consider finite dimensional \(H_m\)-module algebras; these algebras need not be associative. They relate the \(H_m\)-module structure on an algebra \(A\) to the existence of certain gradings and of certain skew derivations on \(A\). More precisely it is proved (Theorem 8) that if all skew derivations on \(A\) are inner then the \(H_m\)-module structure on \(A\) is determined by the choice of a grading on \(A\) by the cyclic group \(C_m\) of order \(m\), and by the choice of a homogeneous (in the grading) element \(y\) which is not in the neutral component, and the inner skew derivations determined by \(y\), applied to \(y\), is nilpotent. Moreover, they apply this result to the algebra \(UT_n(F)\) of the upper triangular matrices of order \(n\) over \(F\). They show how one can determine the \(H_m\)-module structure on \(UT_n(F)\). Finally they study the \(H_m\)-identities of \(UT_2(F)\). The authors prove that the corresponding PI exponent of \(UT_2(F)\) equals 2. But unlike the ordinary case, the variety of \(H_m\)-module algebras generated by \(UT_2(F)\) is not of almost polynomial growth.
