A principal aim of this paper is to extend the Haagerup-Schultz approach [\textit{U. Haagerup} and \textit{H. Schultz}, Math. Scand. 100, No. 2, 209--263 (2007; Zbl 1168.46039)] from the setting of finite von Neumann algebras to the semifinite case. Indeed, the authors extend the notion of the determinant function \(\Lambda\), originally introduced by \textit{T. Fack} and \textit{H. Kosaki} [Pac. J. Math. 123, 269--300 (1986; Zbl 0617.46063)] for \(\tau\)-compact operators, to a natural algebra of \(\tau\)-measurable operators affiliated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra. As application, the authors prove the Hölder type inequalities via general Araki-Lieb-Thirring inequalities due to \textit{H. Kosaki} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 114, No. 2, 477--481 (1992; Zbl 0762.46060)] and \textit{Y. Han} [Ann. Funct. Anal. 7, No. 4, 622--635 (2016; Zbl 1431.47004)] and to a Weyl-type theorem for uniform majorization.
