First, recall some basic definitions. Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with unit. An ideal \(I\) of \(R\) is said to be SFT if there is a finitely generated subideal \(F\) of \(I\) and a positive integer \(n\) such that \(x^n\in F\) for all \(x\in I\). If all the ideals of \(R\) satisfy this condition, we say that \(R\) is an SFT ring. It is well known that when \(R\) is not an SFT ring, the formal power series ring \(R[[X]]\) admits an infinite increasing sequence of prime ideals. In the present paper, the authors improve this result. Let \(M\) be a non-SFT maximal ideal of a ring \(R\) which is the radical of a countably generated ideal, then they construct a chain of prime ideals in \(R[[X]]\) with lenght at least \(2^{\aleph_1}\) lying between \(MR[[X]]\) and \(M[[X]]\).
