The first part of the paper revises and improves (in a very strong way) the famous Brachat-Comon-Mourrain-Tsidgaridas algorithm [\textit{J. Brachat} et al., Linear Algebra Appl. 433, No. 11--12, 1851--1872 (2010; Zbl 1206.65141)] for the rank \(1\) decompomposition of any multivariate degree \(d\) form. Then the authors devise a similar algorithm for a decomposition of the form into sums of term \(L_i^{d-1}M_i\), \(L_i\) and \(M_i\) linear forms (which is associated to degree 2 connected zero-dimensional schemes) and then propose a version for the cactus rank, essentially additive decomposition of a form where ic addendum is of the form \(L_i^{k_i}M_i\) with \(\deg (M_i)=d-k_i\) and the \(k_i\) may be different for different addenda.
