The paper under review considers the extension of results by M. Schiffer and others, which were obtained for Jordan curves on a Riemann surface separating it into two connected components, to more general curves, in particular quasicircles. Consider a surface \(R\) and a regular curve \(\Gamma\) separating \(R\) into two components \(\Sigma_1\) and \(\Sigma_2\). Given a regular function \(h\) on \(\Gamma\), there are holomorphic functions \(h_1\) and \(h_2\) on \(\Sigma_1\) and \(\Sigma_2\) respectively, such that \(h = h_2 - h_1\), if and only if \(\int_\Gamma h \alpha = 0\) for all holomorphic one-forms \(\alpha\) on \(R\). The question is to determine how regular the curve and the function need to be. The authors prove in this paper that the result holds when \(\Gamma\) is a quasicircle, and \(h\) is taken to be the boundary values of a harmonic function of bounded Dirichlet energy on \(\Sigma_1\) or \(\Sigma_2\). The core of the paper is formed by Sections 3 and 4. In Section 3 a number of results known for analytic boundary are extended to quasicircles, and besides new identities involving the adjoints of the so-called Schiffer operators are obtained in Theorems 3.11-13. The main results in Section 4 include to show that the Plemelj-Sokhotski jump formula holds for quasicircles, as well as the two following isomorphism results: Theorem 4.2.2 proves that the Schiffer operator \(T(\Sigma_1, \Sigma_2)\) is an isomorphism from a finite codimension space of one-forms onto the space of exact one-forms on \(\Sigma_2\); and Theorem 4.2.6 shows the so-called Plemelj-Sokhotski isomorphism, which allows to establish a version for quasicircles of the Plemelj-Sokhotski jump formula.
