The authors present an abstract version of Grothedieck's theorem in the context of uniform algebras and modules over them. Recall that one formulation of the original setting of Grothendieck's result establishes that any continuous linear operator from \(C(K)\) into \(L^1(\mu)\) is \(2\)-absolutely summing. Generalizations of such a result where \(L^1(\mu)\) can be replaced by cotype 2 spaces or \(C(K)\) by the disc algebra are already known. Based on some properties appeared in the paper by the authors [Isr. J. Math. 239, No. 1, 21--38 (2020; Zbl 1466.46013] the authors deal with certain \(w^*\)-subalgebras of \(L^\infty(\mu)\) where \(\mu\) is a finite measure, namely those \(X\) satisfying that \(1\in X\) and for any \(0\le \varphi \in L^p(\mu)\) there exists a sequence \((u_j)\subset X\) such that \(\|u_j\|_p\le C \|\varphi\|_p\), \(Re u_j\ge 0\) and \(u_j\to \varphi+i\psi\) in \(L^p(\mu)\) for some real valued function \(\psi\). In their main result they prove that if \(Y\) is a module over \(X\) with the above properties and \(F\) is a space of cotype 2 then any bounded linear operator \(T:Y\to F\) of finite rank satisfies that \(\pi_2(T)\le C \|T\|\) with a constant depending only on \(Y\) and \(F\), where \(\pi_2(T)\) denotes the norm as \(2\)-absolutely summing operator. The result relies on the fact that for any \(r>0\) the closure in \(L^p(\mu)\) of functions in \(Y\) which belong to \(L^\infty(\mu)\) coincides with \(Y\) for any \(Y\) module over \(X\) with the properties above.
