Let \((M,\pi)\) be a Poisson manifold and \(S\) a Poisson submanifold. Every Hamiltonian vector field \(X_H\) of \(M\) gives rise to a linear vector field \(var_S(X_H)\) on the normal bundle \(E = \frac{T_S M}{TS}\) of \(S\) in \(M\). The Hamiltonization problem asks if \(var_S(X_H)\) can be realized as a Hamiltonian vector field for some Poisson algebra structure on the space \(C^{\infty}_{aff}(E)\) of fiberwise affine functions on \(E\). It was shown in [\textit{Y. Vorobjev}, Banach Cent. Publ. 54, 249--274 (2001; Zbl 1007.53062)] that the answer is positive in case \(S\) is a symplectic leaf. The central result of this paper is a criterion for the existence of a linearized Poisson model as such for \(X_H\), when the submanifold \(S\) is embedded. The authors introduce a family of Poisson algebra structures on \(C^{\infty}_{aff}(E)\), parametrized by the transversals of \(S\). Their criterion is the existence of an invariant transversal \(\mathcal{L}\) for \(X_H\). (This is a necessary and sufficient condition.) This criterion is then applied to the linearization of Hamiltonian group actions on \(S\).
