Let \(S= k[x_1,\ldots , x_n]\) be the standard graded polynomial ring and let \(I\subseteq S\) be a homogeneous ideal. The quotient ring \(S/I\) is called a standard graded \(k\)-algebra. This paper is structured as follows: In Section 2 the author gives the necessary background and notation. In Section 3 he introduces a set of partitions of a number, and he defines a numerical function called a Ferrers function. Finally, in Section 4 the author investigates a connection between partitions and set of monomials, and he proves that Ferrers functions characterize the Hilbert functions of bigraded algebras.
