The authors study a continuous limit of a lattice-based discrete model of biological invasion processes that explicitly accounts for differences in individual and collective cell behaviour. This leads to a one-dimensional reaction-diffusion equation with a polynomial convex nonlinear diffusivity sign changing function and a polynomial reaction term. The main achievement of the work is the existence of traveling waves with monotone profiles, propagating at certain speeds. These results are obtained using delicate phase plane analysis.
