In this paper, the authors introduce two important general identities relating Eisenstein series on split classical groups, as well as double covers of symplectic groups, applying certain Fourier coefficient associated to nilpotent orbits. In this review, for simplicity, we focus on the case of symplectic groups. Let \(F\) be a number filed and \(\mathbb{A}\) be its ring of adeles. The first identity considers Eisenstein series on \(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n(m+i)}(\mathbb{A})\), constructed from the Levi subgroup \(\mathrm{GL}_n^{m+i}\) and representations \(\Delta(\tau,m+i)|\cdot|^s\), where \(m\) is even, \(\tau\) is an irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of \(\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{A})\), \(\Delta(\tau,m+i)\) is the Speh representation of \(\mathrm{GL}_{n(m+i)}(\mathbb{A})\). Applying the Fourier coefficient associated to partition \([(2n-1)^m 1^{2ni+m}]\) to the above Eisenstein series, one obtains an automorphic function on the stabilizer of the Gelfand-Grave coefficient which is \(\mathrm{Sp}_m(\mathbb{A}) \times \mathrm{Sp}_{2ni+m}(\mathbb{A})\). After integrating this automorphic function against a cuspidal automorphic form in an irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation \(\sigma\) of \(\mathrm{Sp}_m(\mathbb{A})\), the authors show that the resulting function is exactly the Eisenstein series on \(\mathrm{Sp}_{2ni+m}(\mathbb{A})\) constructed from the Levi subgroup \(\mathrm{GL}_n^{i} \times \mathrm{Sp}_m\) and representations \(\Delta(\tau,i)|\cdot|^s \otimes \sigma^{\iota}\), where \(\sigma^{\iota}\) is an outer conjugation of \(\sigma\) by an order two element. This identity can be viewed as an extension of the doubling construction introduced by \textit{Y. Cai} et al. [Invent. Math. 217, No. 3, 985--1068 (2019; Zbl 1480.11060)]. Special cases of \(n=1\) were considered by \textit{D. Ginzburg} et al. [\(L\) functions for the orthogonal group. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1997; Zbl 0884.11022)] and \textit{C. Mœglin} [J. Lie Theory 7, No. 2, 201--229 (1997; Zbl 0885.11032)]. The second identity considers Eisenstein series on \(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n(i+1)}(\mathbb{A})\), constructed from the Levi subgroup \(\mathrm{GL}_n^{i+1}\) and representations \(\Delta(\tau,i+1)|\cdot|^s\). Applying the Fourier-Jacobi coefficient associated to partition \([(2n)1^{2ni}]\) to the above Eisenstein series, one obtains an automorphic function on the metaplectic group \(\mathrm{Sp}^{(2)}_{2ni}(\mathbb{A})\). The authors show that the resulting automorphic function is exactly the Eisenstein series on \(\mathrm{Sp}^{(2)}_{2ni}(\mathbb{A})\) constructed from the Levi subgroup \(\mathrm{GL}_n^{i}\) and representations \(\Delta(\tau,i)\gamma_{\psi^{-1}}|\cdot|^s\), where \(\gamma_{\psi^{-1}}\) is the Weil factor attached to \(\psi^{-1}\). This identity is a generalization of the descent construction studied by \textit{D. Ginzburg} et al. [The descent map from automorphic representations of \(\text{GL}(n)\) to classical groups. Hackensack, NJ: World Scientific (2011; Zbl 1233.11056)]. The special case of \(n=1\) was studied by \textit{T. Ikeda} [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 34, No. 3, 615--636 (1994; Zbl 0822.11041)]. The authors expect to extend these identities to metaplectic covering groups of split classical groups and certain variation. The authors also expect to apply these identities to study poles of the Eisenstein series involved and the wave front set of the corresponding residual representations. For example, the authors have applied the identities to study the wave front set of residual Eisenstein series on symplectic or metaplectic groups induced from Speh representations [the authors, Res. Number Theory 8, No. 1, Paper No. 10, 25 p. (2022; Zbl 1492.11100)].
