Recall that two finite groups are isospectral if they have the same set of element orders. The main result of this paper is that a finite group \(G\) that is isospectral to \(L\), where \(L=L_{4}(q)\) or \(L=U_{4}(q)\) for \(q\) odd, is an almost simple group with socle \(L\). The authors mention that these finite groups can be explicitly described. They prove that a group \(G\) as above cannot have a group of Lie type in characteristic coprime to \(q\) as a composition factor. Many other results are included in this paper, as well as detailed reviews of the necessary known results.
