The complete asymptotic expansion for the radius of starlikeness \(r^*\) of the normalised Bessel function \[ \phi_\nu(z)=2^\nu \Gamma(1+\nu) z^{1-\frac{1}{2}\nu} J_\nu(\sqrt{z})\qquad (\nu>-1) \] is considered. It is established that \[ r^*(\phi_\nu)\sim 4\nu \left(1+\sum_{k=1}^\infty \frac{A_k}{\nu^k}\right)\qquad (\nu\to+\infty) \] where \(A_1=1\) and the coefficients \(A_r\) (\(r\geq 2\)) are given by a recurrence relation. This result is derived by means of the identity \(\phi_\nu(z)=z\prod_{n=1}^\infty (1-z/j_{\nu,n}^2)\), where \(j_{\nu,n}\) is the \(n\)th positive zero of \(J_\nu(z)\), together with properties of the Rayleigh sum \(\sigma_k(\nu)=\sum_{n=1}^\infty 1/j_{\nu,n}^2\) and asymptotic inversion. Similar results are obtained for the normalised Bessel functions \[ 2^\nu \Gamma(1+\nu) z^{1-\nu} J_\nu(z)\quad (\nu>-1)\ \ \mbox{and}\ \ (2^\nu \Gamma(1+\nu)J_\nu(z))^{1/\nu}\quad (\nu>0). \] In the last case, it is known that the radius of starlikeness is the smallest positive zero of \(J_\nu'(z)\) so that its asymptotic expansion immediately follows from a known expansion.
