Let \( n,m \) be positive integers with \( 1<m<n \), and let \( d=\gcd(n,m) \). In the paper under review, the authors study the system of simultaneous Pell equations \[x^2-(m^2-1)y^2=1, \quad z^2-(n^2-1)y^2=1. \tag{1}\] As their main result, the authors use a clever combination of techniques in number theory and the theory of Diophantine approximation to prove that if \( d\ge 2(n/d)^{4} \), then the system of simultaneous Pell equations (1) have only the positive integer solution \( (x,y,z)=(m,1,n) \).
