Consonant spaces were introduced in [\textit{S. Dolecki} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 347, No. 8, 2869--2884 (1995; Zbl 0845.54005)] in the context of spaces of closed sets and the definition reflects this: First, a collection \(\mathcal{C}\) of open sets is called compact if whenever a member~\(C\) of~\(\mathcal{C}\) if covered by a family~\(\mathcal{O}\) of open sets then the union of a finite subfamily of~\(\mathcal{O}\) belongs to~\(\mathcal{C}\). Second, a consonant space is one in which for every compact family~\(\mathcal{C}\) of open sets and every member~\(C\) of~\(\mathcal{C}\) there is a compact set~\(K\) such that \(K\subseteq C\) and \(\{O:K\subseteq O\) and \(O\)~is open\(\}\subseteq\mathcal{C}\).\par The author proves two results: a product \(\prod_{n\in\omega}X_n\) is consonant and has property~\(P\) iff every subproduct \(\prod_{i\le n}X_i\) is consonant and has property~\(P\). The latter property is characterized by the remainder in some compactification having the familiar Menger property. The second result shows that a consonant metric space has property~\(P\). This then implies that countable products of consonant metric spaces are again consonant.
