It is well known that the Julia set of a hyperbolic rational map is quasisymmetrically equivalent to the standard Cantor set. The authors observe that, using the uniformization theorem of \textit{G. David} and \textit{S. Semmes} [Fractured fractals and broken dreams. Self-similar geometry through metric and measure. Oxford: Clarendon Press (1997; Zbl 0887.54001)], thies leads to the important fact that, for a hyperbolic rational map \(f\), the Julia set of \(f\) is uniformly perfect and uniformly disconnected. In the paper under review, the authors study the analogous question for Julia sets of hyperbolic uniformly quasiregular maps in \(\mathbb{S}^n\), for \(n\geq 2\). They show that the Julia set of such a map is uniformly disconnected if it is totally disconnected. Moreover, they show that, if E is a compact, uniformly perfect and uniformly disconnected set in \(\mathbb{S}^n\), then it is the Julia set of a hyperbolic uniformly quasiregular map \(f: \mathbb{S}^N\to \mathbb{S}^N\) where \(N=n\) if \(n=2\) and \(N=n+1\) for otherwise.
