Following an extensive review of the literature, the authors discuss radial solutions for Dirichlet or Newmann problems in the unit ball \(B\) of \(\mathbb{R}^2\) for Lane-Emden (\(\alpha =0\)) and Hénon (\(\alpha >0\)) equations \[ -\Delta u = |x|^\alpha |u|^{p-1}u \ \ \mbox{ with } \ \ p>1. \] A detailed characterization of properties of the solutions is given in the limit case \(p\to \infty\). These results lead also to the characterization of solutions in the entire \(\mathbb{R}^2\). The paper ends with a conjecture on the Morse index of solutions for the Dirichlet Lane-Emden case.
