In the paper under the review, the authors establish the Sato-Tate equidistribution of Hecke eigenvalues of the family of Hecke-Maass cusp forms on the locally symmetric space \(\mathrm{SL}(n, \mathbb{Z}) \setminus \mathrm{SL}(n, \mathbb{R}) / \mathrm{SO}(n)\). This solves a long-lasting problem, which highly generalizes classical results of Selberg known in the case \(n=2\). The authors first provide some uniform estimates for orbital integrals of certain bi-\(\mathrm{SO}(n)\)-invariant unbounded functions, developing a method of the independent interest which can be used to obtain new estimates on Harish-Chandra spherical functions. Then they provide uniform bounds for terms appearing in Arthur's expansion of the geometric side of the trace formula for \(\mathrm{GL}(n)\). Spectral properties of the Hecke-Maass cusp forms are also studied, and a remainder term in the Weyl's law for \(\mathrm{SL}(n, \mathbb{Z})\) is obtained for \(n \geq 3\). As a consequence of the established equidistribution, some quantitative bounds towards Ramanujan are obtained, which imply that the exceptions to Ramanujan for the Hecke-Maass forms are sparse.
