This paper deals with difference equations, their integrability properties, and the derivation of new integrable systems. It proposes a method which employs a known auto-Bäcklund transformation of a given discrete system in the construction of an auto-Bäcklund transformation for another system. Since such transformations are related to the integrability of a system, this approach leads to the derivation of new integrable systems along with their auto-Bäcklund transformations. In particular, they apply their method to the so-called Adler-Bobenko-Suris (ABS) equations, which are 3D consistent, have certain symmetries, and define their own auto-Bäcklund transformation. In this way the authors derive new systems along with their auto-Bäcklund transformations. They also consider other ``non-standard'' auto-Bäcklund transformations leading to more new systems. The authors also analyze a system which is outside the ABS list, specifically equation \(\mathrm{H3}^*_0\) from the classification work of \textit{J. Atkinson} and \textit{M. Nieszporski} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2014, No. 15, 4215--4240 (2014; Zbl 1305.37033)], and derive a new nonlinear equation.
