Let \(S\) be a commutative cancellative torsion-free monoid (written additively), let \(D\) be a domain and \(D[S]\) the monoid algebra of \(S\) over \(D\). \(D_P\) denotes the localization of \(D\) by \(P\) (\(P\) -- a prime ideal of \(D\)) and \({\mathcal X}(D)\) the height-one spectrum of \(D\). A domain (resp. monoid) \(D\) is called \textit{weakly Krull} if \(D=\bigcap_{P\in {\mathcal X}(D)}D_P\) and \({\mathcal X}(D)\) is of finite character, that is every non-zero non-unit (resp. non-unit) is contained only in a finite number of height-one prime ideals (resp. minimal non-empty prime ideals). A weakly Krull domain \(D\) is called \textit{generalized Krull} if \(D_P\) is a valuation domain for all \(P\in {\mathcal X}(D)\). Necessary and sufficient conditions for \(D[S]\) to be weakly Krull or generalized Krull are found for the following two cases: 1) the quotient group of \(S\) satisfies the ascending chain condition on cyclic subgroups or 2) \(D\) is of characteristic \(0\). These results are refined for the cases when \(D\) is a weakly Krull domain or \(S\) is an affine monoid.
