Let \(X\) be a Tychonoff space, \(\alpha\) a nonempty family of subsets of \(X\) and \(C(X)\) the set of all real-valued continuous functions on \(X\). The set-open topology \(\tau_{\alpha}\) on \(C(X)\) has a subbase consisting of the sets \([A,U]=\{f\in C(X):f(A)\subseteq U\}\), where \(A\in \alpha\) and \(U\) is an open subset of \(\mathbb{R}\). The topology of uniform convergence on the elements of \(\alpha\), denoted by \(\tau_{\alpha ,u}\), is defined as follows: A local base of \(f\in C(X)\) in \(\tau_{\alpha ,u}\) is constituted by the collection of sets of the form \(V^{0}(f,A,\epsilon )=\{g\in C(X):\sup_{x\in A}|g(x)-f(x)|<\epsilon\}\), where \(A\in \alpha\) and \(\epsilon> 0\). In the paper under review, the authors study the selectively pseudocompact-open topology \(\tau_{\alpha_{sp}}\) on \(C(X)\) when \(\alpha =\alpha_{sp}\) is the collection of all selectively pseudocompact subsets of \(X\). They prove that \(\tau_{\alpha_{sp}}\) is the same as the topology of uniform convergence on elements of \(\alpha_{sp}\) and compare it with \(\tau_{\alpha}\) and \(\tau_{\alpha ,u}\) where \(\alpha\) is one of the following: \(\{X\}\), the finite subsets of \(X\), the compact subsets of \(X\), the countably compact subsets of \(X\), and the pseudocompact subsets of \(X\). Characterizations of metrizability, 1st and 2nd countability, separability, and complete metrizability are given for the selectively pseudocompact-open topology. In the last section of the paper, the authors analyze almost \(cc\)-\(\omega\)-bounded spaces.
