The concept of gluing numerical semigroups was introduced by \textit{J. C. Rosales} [Semigroup Forum 55, No. 2, 152--159 (1997; Zbl 0951.20042)]. It has been used to study complete intersection and Gorenstein numerical semigroups. This paper focuses on the study of the tangent cones of numerical semigroups and introduces a new type of gluing called specific gluing. The authors study arithmetic properties of the tangent cones corresponding to monomial curves obtained by specific gluing. They characterize Cohen-Macaulay and Gorenstein properties for these curves and prove that they have non-decreasing Hilbert functions. Unlike the usual techniques (presentations and Gröbner bases), the authors' approach is based on Apéry sets, which are easier to compute and more intrinsically related to the semigroup. Thus, they are able to complete and extend results about nice gluings by \textit{F. Arslan} et al. [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 137, No. 7, 2225--2232 (2009; Zbl 1169.13014)].
