In the paper under review, the author studies the \(p\)-integrality of the (cohomological) theta lift from orthogonal similitude groups of orthogonal spaces of signature \((s, t)\) with \(s > t\) odd to symplectic similitude groups. In some more detail, the author obtains a lifting of cuspidal cohomology classes for the symmetric space associated to a group of orthogonal similitudes to a holomorphic Siegel modular form on \(\mathrm{GSp}_n(\mathbb{A})\) (for any \(n \leq s\)) of weight \(\frac{(s + t)}{2}\). The results of \textit{S. S. Kudla} and \textit{J. J. Millson} [Compos. Math. 45, 207--271 (1982; Zbl 0495.10016)] further imply an interpretation of its Fourier coefficients as period integrals of the cohomology class over certain cycles, which the author achieves by proving a `Thom-lemma' for handling the infinite geodesics. These period integrals can be expressed in terms of special \(L\)-values of cusp forms for \(\mathrm{GL}(2)\) over imaginary quadratic fields. Here, the author takes as rational (or \(p\)-integral) structures the ones coming from Betti cohomology for the orthogonal group, whilst the Fourier expansion for the Siegel modular form gives the arithmetic structure therein and establishes the \(p\)-integrality of the lift for a particular choice of Schwartz function. The case of signature \((3, 1)\) is of particular interest because of its connection to \(\mathrm{GL}(2)\) over an imaginary quadratic field.
