Let \(H\) be a complex Hilbert space and \(L\) a compact operator on \(H\). Let \(\lambda_j(L)\) and \(\alpha_j(L)\) denote the non-zero eigenvalues and approximation numbers of \(L\), then, for any \(p>0\), one has the following estimate \[ \sum_j |\lambda_j(L)|^p \leq 2(2e)^{\frac{p}{2}} \sum_j \alpha_j^p (L). \] In this interesting paper, the authors obtain an analogous estimate for a compact perturbation \(L = L_0+K\) on a complex Banach space. For \(s > \|L_0\|\), the estimate for \(n_L(s)\), the number of eigenvalues outside the closed disk \(B_s\), is given by \[ n_L(s) \leq C_p \frac{s}{(s-\|L_0\|)^{p+1}} \sum_j \alpha_j^p(K). \]
