Let \(k\) be a perfect field, characteristic \(p>0\). The author defines the notion of a connected Hopf coring; loosely, a connected Hopf coring is a \(k\)-Hopf algebra \(H\) together with a coassociative map \(\varphi\colon H\to H\widehat\boxtimes H\), where \(H\widehat\boxtimes H\) is the universal cobilinear coproduct of \(H\) with itself. Since certain types of Hopf algebras correspond to certain types of Dieudonné modules, the effect of the additional coring structure on \(H\) on its Dieudonné module is considered. One then gets the notion of Dieudonné coring, and it is shown that connected Dieudonné corings correspond to connected Hopf corings.
