The Jacobian conjecture says that a polynomial local diffeomorphism \(f: \mathbb C^n \to \mathbb C^n\) must be bijective (see surveys of \textit{A. van den Essen} [Polynomial automorphisms and the Jacobian conjecture. Basel: Birkhäuser (2000; Zbl 0962.14037)] and \textit{H. Bass} et al. [Bull. Am. Math. Soc., New Ser. 7, 287--330 (1982; Zbl 0539.13012)]). When \(n=2\) and \(f = (P,Q)\), the author shows that the conjecture holds under the additional assumption that \(P\) and \(Q\) are \textit{rational}, meaning that the generic fibers of \(P\) and \(Q\) are irreducible rational curves. There are several proofs assuming that all the fibers of \(P\) (or \(Q\)) are irreducible, such as that of \textit{M. Razar} [Isr. J. Math. 32, 97--106 (1979; Zbl 0406.13006)].
