The weighted Sobolev space \(S(d\mu)\) is the completion of the space of smooth functions \(f\) on the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\) for which \[ \|f\|^2= \int_\mathbb{D} |f|^2 d\mu +\int_\mathbb{D} | \frac{ \partial f}{\partial z}|^2 \,d\mu <\infty. \] The weighted Dirichlet space consists of all holomorphic functions \(h\) in \(S(d\mu)\) satisfying \(h(0)=0.\) If \(d\mu\) is the normalized area measure, then \(\mathcal{D}(d\mu)\) is the usual Dirichlet space. On the Dirichlet space, \textit{Y. J. Lee} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 329, No.~2, 1316--1329 (2007; Zbl 1154.31300)] proved that a compact Toeplitz operator with a special symbol on the Dirichlet space must be zero. \textit{T. Yu} [Integral Equations Oper. Theory 67, No.~2, 163--170 (2010; Zbl 1233.47026)] proved that this characterization is true for all Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space. Write \[ \Omega=\{u\in C^1(\mathbb{D}): u, \frac{\partial u}{\partial z}, \frac{\partial u}{\partial \overline{z}} \}. \] It is known that each function in \(\Omega\) can extend continuously on \(\overline{\mathbb{D}}.\) This paper focusses on the compactness of a Toeplitz operators with continuous symbol on the weighted Dirichlet space \(\mathcal{D}(d\sigma \frac{d\theta }{2\pi}).\) The authors show that, for a function \(f\) in \(\Omega\) which is continuous on \(\overline{\mathbb{D}}\), if \(T_f\) is compact, then \(f\) vanishes on \(\mathbb{T}\). Also they show that the converse is true under some restrictions. Besides, they give some sufficient conditions for \(T_f\) to be a compact operator, including the case of \(f\) being a polynomial.
