Given a Schrödinger operator \(H=-\Delta+V\) on \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)\) with real-valued potential \(V\), vanishing at infinity, let \(\mu_1\leq\mu_2\leq\cdots\leq0\) be its negative eigenvalues counted with multiplicity. The celebrated Lieb-Thirring inequality states that there exists a constant \(L_{\gamma,d}\) independent of \(V\) such that \[ \sum_{j}|\mu_j|^\gamma \leq L_{\gamma,d}\,\int_{\mathbb{R}^d}V_-(x)^{\gamma+d/2}dx, \quad \gamma>\max(0,1-d/2), \] where \(V_-\) is the negative part of \(V\). This was later extended to the cases \(\gamma=0\), \(d\geq3\) and \(2\gamma=d=1\). It is of particular interest to identify the value of the sharp constant \(L_{\gamma,d}\). At the moment, such a value is known for \(\gamma\geq3/2\), \(d\geq1\) and \(L_{1/2,1}=1/2\). The author suggests a new proof for the sharp Lieb-Thirring constants \(L_{1/2,1}\) and \(L_{3/2,1}\) using an approximation of the Schrödinger operator by Jacobi operators on the lattice, based on the commutation method.
