Refinements to Mumford's theta and adelic theta groups (Q2258229)

\textit{D. Mumford} introduced and studied theta groups and adelic theta groups of line bundles on abelian varieties in [Invent. Math. 1, 287--354 (1966)] and [ibid. 3, 75--135, 215--244 (1967; Zbl 0219.14024)], respectively. On the other hand, \textit{S. Mukai} studied semihomogeneous vector bundles on abelian varieties in [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 18, 239--272 (1978; Zbl 0417.14029)] and \textit{H. Umemura} started the investigation of the theta groups of these bundles in [Nagoya Math. J. 64, 31--45 (1976; Zbl 0321.14011)]. The paper presents a detailed investigation of theta groups of semihomogeneous vector bundles and adelic theta groups of line bundles on abelian varieties, generalizing several of Mumford's and Umemura's results. In particular, the representation theory of these theta groups is worked out. Finally, it is shown that there is a natural embedding of the Néron-Severi group of an abelian variety into the second cohomology group of the projective limit of the prime-to the characteristic torsion points with values in the multiplicative group of the base field.
