A Lie system is a system of first-order differential equations describing the integral curves of a \(t\)-dependent vector field taking values in a finite-dimensional real Lie algebra of vector fields, more precisely a Vessiot-Guldberg Lie algebra. A relevant subclass of Lie systems is that of Lie-Hamiltonian systems, frequently appearing in classical mechanics. More precisely, a local classification of finite-dimensional Lie algebras of Hamiltonian vector fields on the plane is obtained, with twelve classes. Then the main characteristics of these systems, namely integrability, symmetries and superposition rules, are carefully analyzed.
