The authors consider finitely presented algebras over a field \(K\), generated by \(a_1,\dots,a_n\), and with homogeneous relations of the form \(a_1\cdots a_n=a_{\sigma(1)}\cdots a_{\sigma(n)}\), where \(\sigma\) runs, e.g., through the cyclic group generated by the cycle \((1,\dots,n)\). The monoid \(S_n\) with these relations is shown to be cancellative, having a group of fractions which is given explicitly as a direct product of a free group and an infinite cyclic group. The algebra \(K[S_n]\) is shown to be a semiprimitive domain which is primitive if and only if the field \(K\) is countable.
