The authors investigate a linear delay equation. They characterize the existence of nonuniform exponential contraction and of nonuniform exponential dichotomy in terms of Lyapunov functions. The main results of the paper are four theorems which are of interest. Ten examples illustrating the applicability of the sufficient conditions are presented.
