Let \(R\) be a commutative Noetherian ring. As a generalization of the classical notion of regular sequences, the notion of filter regular sequences was introduced by \textit{T. Cuong, P. Schenzel} and \textit{N. V. Trung} [Math. Nachr. 85, 57--73 (1978; Zbl 0398.13014)] and studied the class of generalized Cohen-Macaulay modules. Later, \textit{L. T. Nhan} [Commun. Algebra 33, No. 3, 793--806 (2005; Zbl 1083.13007] introduced the concept of generalized regular sequence. Recently, \textit{L. T. Nhan} and \textit{M. Morales} [Commun. Algebra 34, No. 3, 863--878 (2006; Zbl 1097.13024)] introduced generalized \(f\)-modules, which satisfy the property that every system of parameters is a generalized regular sequence. In the paper under review, the authors introduce the notion of regular sequences with respect to a Serre class of \(R\)-modules and they give some of their essential properties.
