A metric space \(S\) is called a quasisphere if there is a quasisymmetric homeomorphism \(f:S^{2} \mapsto S\). The author considers the corresponding elliptic harmonic measure, i.e., the push forward of the \(2\)-dimensional Lebesgue measure by \(f\). The author proves the following basic results (and also a lot of connected results): Theorem: Let \(R\) be a postcritically finite rational map without periodic critical points. Let \(|x-y|_{S}\) be a metric as above. Then there is \(\alpha \geq 2 / \dim_{H}(S)\) such that, for (Lebesgue) almost every point \(x \in S^{2}\), \[ \displaystyle{\lim_{y \to x} \frac{\log|x-y|_{S}}{\log|x-y|}=\alpha}. \] Here, \(|x-y|\) denotes the spherical metric, and \(\dim_{H}(S)\) denotes the Hausdorff dimension of \((S^{2}, |x-y|_{S})\). Furthermore, \(\alpha=2 / \dim_{H}(S)\) if and only if \(R\) is a Lattes map. In fact, \(\displaystyle{\alpha= \frac{\log N}{\chi}}\), where \(\chi\) is the Lyapunov exponent. The results are obtained by representing the self similarity of a snowsphere by a postcritically finite rational map, and showing a corresponding result for such maps. As a corollary, a metric characterization of Lattes maps is obtained. Furthermore, a method is presented to compute the dimension of elliptic harmonic measures numerically, along with the (numerically computed) values for certain examples.
