Let \(p\) a prime, and let \(G\) be a finite group with Sylow \(p\)-subgroup \(P=M_{n+1}(p)=\langle x,y:x^{p^n}=y^p=1\), \(x^y=x^{1+p^{n-1}}\rangle\) where \(n\geq 2\) (\(n\geq 3\) for \(p=2\)). Moreover, let \(A\) be a \(p\)-block of full defect in \(G\). The authors compute the number and heights of the irreducible ordinary characters in \(A\) and the number of irreducible Brauer characters in \(A\). Moreover, they show that every simple \(A\)-module has vertex \(P\). In this way they verify the Alperin-McKay conjecture, Alperin's weight conjecture and Dade's conjecture for such blocks. The main tool in their proofs is the focal subgroup theorem.
