The paper under review is one in a series of papers in which the authors systematically study smooth complex representations of metaplectic groups, where the metaplectic group \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}(n)}\) denotes a double cover of a symplectic group \(\text{Sp}(n)\) of rank \(n\) over a local non-archimedean field \(F\) of characteristic different from two. We recall that \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}(n)}\) is not a linear algebraic group. The authors first establish fundamental results on parabolic induction and Jacquet modules, relaying on some general results of Bernstein-Zelevinsky. After the explicit description of the action of the elements of the Weyl group, a combinatorial version of the geometric lemma, similar to the version given by \textit{M. Tadić} for the classical groups in [J. Algebra 177, No. 1, 1--33 (1995; Zbl 0874.22014)] is obtained. This enables the authors to give a Zelevinsky-type classification of the irreducible genuine representations of metaplectic groups, in the same way as this classification was obtained in the case of classical \(p\)-adic groups in [\textit{M. Hanzer} and \textit{G. Muić}, J. Algebra 320, No. 8, 3206--3231 (2008; Zbl 1166.22011)]. As a further application of their Jacquet module technique, the authors also explicitly calculate Jacquet modules of even and odd Weil representations.
