    The authors consider the problem \[ \begin{aligned} {{\partial u_t}\over {\partial t}}(x)&=Au_t(x)-V(x)u_t(x)+w_t(x)G(u_t(x)),\quad t>0,\\ u_0(x)&={\tilde u}_0(x),\quad x\in \mathbb R, \end{aligned} \tag{1} \] where \(A\) is the generator of a Markov process in \(\mathbb R\), \(V(x)\), \(x\in \mathbb R\), is a nonnegative potential, \(G(z)\geq 0\) is a nonlinear term which is locally Lipschitz, \(w_t(x)\) is a positive function, the initial data \({\tilde u}_0(x)\) is bounded and nonnegative. If \(\phi(x)\in L^2(\mathbb R)\cap {\mathcal C}^2(\mathbb R)\) is a positive function such that \({{\phi'(x)}\over {\phi(x)}}\) is bounded for \(x\in \mathbb R\), \({\tilde u}_0(x)={{h(x)}\over {\phi(x)}}\geq 0\) for \(x\in\mathbb R\) and for some positive nontrivial \(h\in {\mathcal C}^2(\mathbb R)\cap L^2(\mu)\), \(\mu(dx)=\phi^2(x) dx\), \(A={1\over 2}{{\partial^2}\over {\partial x^2}}+{{\phi'(x)}\over {\phi(x)}}{{\partial}\over {\partial x}}\), \(V(x)\equiv 0\), \(G(z)\) is a positive convex function such that \(G(z)\geq C z^{1+\beta}\) for every \(z\geq 0\) and for some positive constants \(\beta\) and \(C\), \(w_t(x)\equiv 1\), the authors prove that the norm \(||u_t||_{L^1(\mu)}\) of every positive solution of the problem \((1)\) blows up in finite time. If \(A={1\over 2}{{\partial^2}\over {\partial x^2}}+{{2\gamma+1}\over {2x}}{{\partial}\over {\partial x}}\), \(\gamma\in \mathbb R\), \(V(x)={a\over {x^2}}\), \(a>0\), \(w_t(x)\equiv 1\), \(G(u_t)=u_t^{1+\beta}\), where \(\beta\) is a suitable chosen constant, the authors prove that the mild solution \(u_t(x)\) of the problem \((1)\) blows up in finite time. The authors prove that the problem \((1)\) admits a global solution if \(A={1\over 2}{{\partial^2}\over {\partial x^2}}+{{2\gamma+1}\over {2x}}{{\partial}\over {\partial x}}\), \(\gamma\in \mathbb R\), \(V(x)={a\over {x^2}}\), \(a\geq 0\), \(w_t(x)\leq c_1t^{\xi}\) is a measurable function, \(\xi\in\mathbb R\), \(c_1>0\), \({\tilde u}_0(x)\) is a bounded and measurable, \(G:\mathbb R_+\longrightarrow \mathbb R_+\) is a measurable function for which \(0\leq {{G(z)}\over z}\leq \lambda z^{\beta_1}\), \(z>0\), for some suitable chosen constants \(\lambda>0\) and \(\beta_1>0\).
