Let F be a local field of characteristic \(\neq 2\) and \(F\neq {\mathbb{C}}\). Let \(G_ n\) denote the metaplectic double cover of GL(n,F). The paper is concerned with a certain ``exceptional'' representation of \(G_ n\) (it is the irreducible quotient of some principal series representation. For \(n=2\) this representation is an extension of Weil's representation of the metaplectic group over SL(2,F). For \(n=3\) an explicit model of the representation was constructed by \textit{Y. Flicker}, \textit{D. Kazhdan} and \textit{G. Savin} [J. Anal. Math. 55, 17-39 (1990)]. The present paper generalizes this to \(n\geq 3\). The model is defined inductively, passing from n to \(n+2\), starting from \(n=1\) or 2.
