Wellposedness in a semigroup theoretic framework of partial differential equations with discrete and distributed delays is studied in appropriately chosen state spaces (fractional power spaces). The infinitesimal generator of the solution semigroup and the adjoint of the generator are characterized. The relationship between the adjoint and the transposed solution semigroups is studied by means of a structural operator.
