The author proves in a very general setting that the topological entropy of a continuous endomorphism \(\phi\) of a Lie group \(G\) coincides with the topological entropy of the restriction of \(\phi\) to the maximal torus \(T(G_\phi)\) in the center of the maximal connected subgroup \(G_\phi\) of \(G\) such that \(\phi(G_\phi)=G_\phi\). In this way the computation of the topological entropy of \(\phi\) reduces to the well-known case of the computation of the topological entropy of the continuous endomorphism \(\phi\restriction_{T(G_\phi)}\) of the torus \(T(G_\phi)\). To achieve this result the author exploits the structure of Lie groups and the relation between null topological entropy and the (non)existence of Li-Yorke pairs.
