This paper studies vector preference which may annihilate backward bifurcation and reduces endemicity in mathematical epidemic models. An SEIS-SI epidemic model is presented to consider a general dynamic of vector-borne diseases that could be applied to modeling malaria etc. Based on some model assumptions, the authors calculate the basic reproduction number \(R_0\) for the proposed model. They prove the existence of two endemic equilibria under some conditions on the model parameters. It is found that the vector feeding preference threshold value is relevant for the existence of the endemic equilibria and also for that of the backward bifurcation if \(R_0<1\). An example of Andean cutaneous leishmaniasis in Peru is given to illustrate the results. The global sensitivity of \(R_0\) is discussed and calculated by using partial rank correlation coefficient. Some caveats are remarked by the authors. To complement the theoretical work, it is suggested that the vector feeding preference threshold value should be quantified empirically in the laboratory and field.
