The authors introduce a definition of division for vectors in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) by means of a procedure which finds a solution of the problem \(Xa = b\), where \(a\) and \(b\) are real vector of arbitrary dimension \(n\) and \(X\) is an unknown matrix of size \(n \times n\). In order to achieve this aim, the algebra of octonions is used and the cases \(1 < n < 7\), \(n = 7\) and \(n > 7\) are considered separately. The obtained theoretical results are checked by some numerical tests.
