The authors consider a norm \(p\) on \(\mathbb{R}^2\) satisfying \(p(1,0)=1\) and prove the existence of the limit \[ D(p)=\lim_{t\to 0^+}\frac{p(1,t)-1}{t}. \] In the proof they use the convexity of the function \(t\mapsto p(1,t)\). But this is just a special case of a well-known theorem on convex functions: every convex function \(f:\mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) possesses one-sided derivatives (see, for instance, [\textit{H. L. Royden}, Real analysis. 3rd ed. New York: Macmillan Publishing Company; London: Collier Macmillan Publishing (1988; Zbl 0704.26006), pp.~113 ff]).
