In this work, the authors give a systematic construction of \(d\)-representation-finite self-injective algebras as orbit algebras of the repetitive categories of algebras of finite global dimension satisfying a certain finiteness condition for the Serre functor. The condition holds, in particular, for all fractionally Calabi-Yau algebras of global dimension at most \(d\). This generalizes Riedtmann's classical construction of representation-finite self-injective algebras. Their method is based on an adaptation of Gabriel's covering theory for \(k\)-linear categories to the setting of higher-dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory. Let us be more precise. Given an algebra \(\Lambda\) of finite global dimension, let \(\widehat{\Lambda}\) be its repetitive algebra, that is, the infinite-dimensional, non-unital matrix algebra given in the figure to the right, with only finitely many non-zero entries. The repetitive algebra is self-injective and, by a well-known theorem by Happel, the bounded derived category \(\mathbf{D}^{b}(\operatorname{mod} \Lambda)\) of \(\operatorname{mod} \Lambda\) is triangle equivalent to the stable module category \(\operatorname{\underline{mod}} \Lambda\) of \(\Lambda\). Let \(\varphi \in \mathrm{Aut} (\Lambda)\) be an automorphism satisfying that the orbit algebra \(\widehat{\Lambda} / \varphi\) is finite dimensional. In this work, it is shown that there is a naturally defined bijection between the following two sets of objects: \begin{itemize} \item[(a)] \(d\)-cluster-tilting modules of \(\widehat{\Lambda} / \varphi\); \item[(b)] locally bounded \(\varphi\)-equivariant \(d\)-cluster-tilting subcategories of \(\mathbf{D}^{b}(\operatorname{mod} \Lambda)\). \end{itemize} Using this result, many new classes of \(d\)-representation-finite self-injective algebras can be constructed, with the usual representation-finite self-injective algebras occurring as the special case \(d=1\). In particular, starting from an algebra \(\Lambda\) that is derived equivalent to some \(d\)-representation-finite algebra \(\Lambda'\) (or, more generally, to a fractionally Calabi-Yau algebra of suitable dimension), there is a naturally defined \(d\)-cluster-tilting subcategory \[ {\mathcal{U}_{d}(\Lambda)} = \{ \nu^{l}_{d} (\Lambda) \mid l \in \mathbb{Z} \} \subset \mathbf{D}^{b}(\operatorname{mod} \Lambda) \] and every automorphism \(\varphi\) of \(\widehat{\Lambda}\) which leaves \({\mathcal{U}_{d}(\Lambda)}\) invariant gives rise to a \(d\)-representation-finite self-injective algebra \(\widehat{\Lambda} / \varphi\). Classes of self-injective algebras that have been shown to be \(d\)-representation-finite (for appropriate values of \(d\)) using this method include, amongst others, generalisations of trivial extension algebras (so-called \(m\)-fold trivial extensions) and higher preprojective algebras, which are generalisations of the preprojective algebras of Dynkin quivers.
