Let \(X\) be a Fano variety defined over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of characteristic zero with at most terminal \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial singularities and Picard number 1. \(X\) is called birationally superrigid if and only if every birational map \(\phi \colon X\dasharrow Y\), to a Mori fiber space \(Y\), is an isomorphism. In particular, \(X\) is not rational. This paper has two main results on the birational superrigidity and \(K\)-stability [\textit{G. Tian}, Invent. Math. 130, No. 1, 1--37 (1997; Zbl 0892.53027)] of certain weighted complete intersections. The first result of the paper is that the property of superrigidity is not locally closed in families. In particular the author constructs an explicit family \[ \mathcal{X}\subset \mathbb{P}(1^{n+1},m) \times \mathbb{A}^2_{s,t}\rightarrow \mathbb{A}^2_{s,t}, \] where for any \(s,t\), the fiber \(\mathcal{X}_{s,t}\) is a weighted codimension 2 complete intersection in \(\mathbb{P}(1^{n+1},m)\). Then for \(m\) sufficiently large and \(n=2m-1\), the author show that \(\mathcal{X}_{s,t}\) is birationally superrigid if and only if \(s\not=0\) or \((s,t)=(0,0)\). The second result of the author concerns the \(K\)-stability of a weighted complete intersection. In particular the following is shown. Let \(r,s \in \mathbb{Z}\). Then there exists an integer \(M\) such that every smooth weighted complete intersection \(X\subset \mathbb{P}(1^m,a_1,\dots a_s)\) of codimension \(r\) and index 1, with a base point free anticanonical system \(|-K_X|\), is birationally superigid and \(K\)-stable when \(m\geq M\).
