An interesting symmetric monoidal category is the interpolation category \(\mathrm{Rep}(S_t)\), \(t \in \mathbb{C}\), first defined by Deligne. It interpolates representations of the symmetric group \(S_n\) in the sense that there exists a full symmetric monoidal functor \(\mathrm{Rep}(S_{t=n}) \to \mathrm{Rep}(S_n)\) for \(t \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}\). For such a monoidal category it makes sense to define algebra objects. An algebra is an object \(X \in \mathrm{Rep}(S_t)\) with a morphism \(\mu : X \otimes X \to X\) satisfying the usual algebra axioms. Likewise one can define Lie algebras, and it makes sense to define simple (associative) algebras and simple Lie algebras. The two main results of this article classify simple associative algebras and Lie algebras in \(\mathrm{Rep}(S_t)\) if \(t \notin \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}\). The crucial tool is that one can view \(\mathrm{Rep}(S_t)\) as a limit in rank and characteristic of modular representation categories in positive characteristic. This is formalized by the usage of ultraproducts. The simple associative algebras correspond exactly to families of simple associative \(S_N\) -algebras over \(\mathbb{C}\) which have an interpolation in \(\mathrm{Rep}(S_t)\). A similar results holds for Lie algebras. All simple Lie algebra objects in \(\mathrm{Rep}(S_t)\) comes from either interpolating simple \(S_n\)-Lie algebras over \(\mathbb{C}\) or by interpolating \(S_n\)-Lie algebras in large positive characteristic using the ultraproduct interpretation.
