This paper establishes some apparently new bounds for the sinc function $\sin(x)/x$ on the interval $0 < x < \pi/2$. For instance, part of the author's Theorem 1 reads, with certain hypotheses on the real constant $p$, \[ \xi (1-px^2)^{5/2} < \frac{\sin(x)}{x} < \eta (1-px^2)^{5/2} \] with constructions for $\xi$ and $\eta$ making them the best possible constants. This is, as the author points out, a kind of extension of Jordan's inequality, of which there are many in the literature. The author gives a very creditable survey of said literature, even though like most such surveys it cannot be complete: for instance, the author credits Qi et al 1999 for one particular extension of Jordan's inequality, but an inspection of JSTOR finds the solution of Problem E2952 by Donald Caccia (DePaul University) in 1986 which establishes the left side of that particular extension. That criticism is certainly unfair: the author cites 56 articles in specialized journals, which represents a very substantial effort and provides what looks to be a good introduction to this particular research area.
