The authors provide several spectral considerations on anti-tridiagonal matrices of the following type: \[\left( \begin{array}{cccccccc} & & & & & & * & * \\ & \mathbf{0} & & & & * & * & * \\ & & & & \cdot & \cdot & * & \\ & & & \cdot & \cdot & \cdot & & \\ & & \cdot & \cdot & \cdot & & & \\ & * & \cdot & \cdot & & & & \\ * & * & * & & & & \mathbf{0} & \\ * & * & & & & & & \\ \end{array} \right) , \] namely when the back main diagonal or one of the anti-subdiagonals is zero. They use a similarity technique introduced by \textit{M. Akbulak} et al. [Appl. Math. Comput. 225, 352--357 (2013; Zbl 1334.15071)] and by \textit{C.M. da Fonseca} in [Kuwait J. Sci. 45, 1--6 (2018)]. The so-called distance to normality of these classes of matrices is also studied.
