For a wide class of compact subsets \(E\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) there exists a natural Finsler metric \(\delta _E\) associated with \(E\) and introduced by \textit{M. Baran} in [Ann. Pol. Math. 95, No. 3, 199--206 (2009; Zbl 1163.31002)]. In the case of a convex body \(E\) this metric is closely related to polynomial approximation and interpolation. The paper under review focuses only on Riemannian Baran metrics in order to highlight how the polynomial \(L^2\)-approximation with respect to the equilibrium measure can be considered as a Fourier analysis for a suitable Riemannian metric. These considerations are based upon the relation between the Laplace-Beltrami operator of the Baran metric and the orthogonal polynomials with respect to the pluripotential equilibrium measure.
